This event is part of our series of meetings “At the heart of influence”.
In a globalised world undergoing major changes, influences in higher education are at the heart of the challenges ahead. They will have a significant impact on shaping the minds of future managers. In this context, higher education is more vital than ever in meeting the challenges of the future (climate change, sovereignty and influence, technological advances, global trade, etc.). Future managers must be well trained if they are to implement appropriate solutions.
Thus, for our second discussion in the “At the Heart of Influences” conference series, our chosen theme was “Higher education in a globalised world: between standards and influences, what training is needed for future managers?”.
The speakers (in order of appearance):
- Ms. Alice GUILHON, Dean and Executive President of SKEMA Business School, President of the CDEFM (Conference of French Management School Deans)
- Mr. Jean-Marc RAPP, Rector (President) Emeritus and Honorary Professor at the University of Lausanne, former president of the European University Association (EUA)
- Mr. Franck DEDIEU, Doctor of Economics, Deputy Managing Editor of Marianne
- Mr. Christophe STALLA-BOURDILLON, former international executive with a French industrial multinational, lecturer in Economics and Economic Intelligence at ICN Business School and Ecole Polytechnique
Ms. Claude REVEL, Director of Development at SKEMA Publika, moderated the discussions.
The guests provided fundamental insights into the influence of standards in higher education (evaluations, accreditations, etc.), as well as higher education models and content. Also discussed was how outdated these standards are for dealing with the challenges of the modern world. Looking through the lens of economic intelligence highlighted the influences at play in classrooms (social media, showbiz society, digital technology, etc.). The speakers suggested avenues for improvement appropriate to current and future challenges.
The interactions with the audience led to important reflections on the many societal issues linked to higher education (climate, CSR, France’s place on the world stage, the attractiveness of French higher education and research, etc.).
