Francophonie and Influence, Today and Tomorrow

Evémement

This event is part of our cycle of meetings “At the heart of influence”.

History shows that the link between language and influence/power is a complex one. Today, the number of French speakers in the world is growing. From 321 million in 2022, the most optimistic forecasts estimate that this number will reach 600 million by 2050. However, between politics, economics, culture and education, will the French-speaking world remain a vector of influence for France? Does it need to renew itself?

Speakers included:

  • Clarisse Gérardin, Deputy Director of French Language and Education, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs ;
  • Guy Gweth, President of the Centre africain de veille et d’intelligence économique (CAVIE);
  • Claudine Lepage, former Senator for French nationals living abroad ;
  • Frédéric Munier, Professor of History, Director of the School of Geopolitics at SKEMA Business School;
  • Daniel Zielinski, Ministerial Delegate for the Francophonie at the French Ministry of Sport.

The debate was moderated by Claude Revel, Director of SKEMA Publika.
